Review of The Pact (2012) by Renzo V — 24 Apr 2014
"MOTHER'S HAUNTED HOUSE".
- 'The Pact' is a 2012 supernatural horror film written and directed by Nicholas McCarthy. In the hype of paranormal entity movies that we had last couple of years, this movie stands out due to its simplicity and genuine creepy storyline. I must confess I wasn't really blown away by it, but do like the plot twist in the end, that drove me to the edge of my seat. A perfect scary movie to watch alone, at night... starring Caity Lotz (Death Valley, Arrow) and Casper van Dien (Starship Troopers, Sleepy Hollow). Some doors should never be opened...
Nicole Barlow has come to San Pedro to arrange to funeral of her mother. While her daughter Eva is staying with Nicole's cousin Liz, Nicole is staying at her mother's house and tries to call her estranged sister Annie (Lotz) to help her out. Because of the bad childhood memories Annie doesn't really want to come, but eventually gives in. After the call, Nicole contacts her daughter with a video chat. When Eva sees someone standing behind her mom, the connection is lost.
When Annie arrives in San Pedro, she discovers that Nicole has gone missing. Staying at her mother's house, she finds a photo of two women - one being her own mother and the other a stranger wearing a floral dress. After the funeral Liz and Eva come over, still worried about the disappearance of Nicole. During the night Annie witnesses an entity inside the house. Scared she runs outside, but then hears Eva crying. Running back inside she is attacked by an unseen force, but luckily Annie and Eva manage to escape. But now Liz has gone missing...
While the police doesn't believe her story, Annie gets the help of officer Creek (van Dien), who insists on going back to the house. There the two find a hidden room. Will they encounter the entity?
