Review of The Pact (2010) by Triliana K — 18 Aug 2013
Here's the thing. This isn't that great.
The performances are mostly weak, and it doesn't really go anywhere, and I could tell it had been made from a short as everything felt extremely drawn out, and long. But did it scare me?
Yeah.
And it didn't use cheap scares, like so many horrors do nowadays. The film's scares don't always hit home, but for the most part they did send shivers up my spine.
The most effective section of the film is the third act. When it hits the hour mark, the last 25 minutes are pretty terrifying. Well, a little less than terrifying. A verb that means 'slightly less than terrifying'. The funny thing is that although it is the scariest part, it is also the strangest, and maybe the silliest.
I'm not sure how I feel about the twist yet. It's potentially silly, but also reasonably original.
This isn't a generic horror film. But it's not the greatest. Yet it is scary... And shot well also. It's just the story and performances are weak.
