Review of The Pacifier (2005) by Barry N — 29 Mar 2011
Diesel seems to talk at half-speed most of the time, and doesn't exactly have a natural comic sensibility, but he works hard with a cast of great kids. A delightful, involving comedy with a little suspense and action thrown in. Vin Diesel is surprisingly sensitive and comedic as a tough, lonely warrior turned paterfamilias. The Pacifier provides passable, albeit predictable, family fare sure to please the kids without forcing their adult counterparts to whine like babies. In the end, The Pacifier doesn't have a whole lot to offer - though there's no denying that the movie remains somewhat entertaining throughout. It's the kind of movie that's perfect for less-discriminating viewers, and those who just want a 98-minute respite from using their brain.
VERDICT: "Matinée" - (Mixed reaction). These kinds of movies are usually movies that had some good things, but some bad things kept it from being amazing. This rating says to pay matinée prices to see at a theatre or buy an ex rental or a cheap price the DVD to own.
