Review of The Outsiders (1983) by Mr J — 19 Jun 2010
Not only one of THE very best book-to-screen adaptations of all time (and a strong case can be made for it being #1), "The Outsiders" is simultaneously (a) a time capsule of actors who would almost UNIVERSALLY go on to become big stars and (b) a movie that me and my circle of friends still quote to this day.
Its story is well-known - you've likely read the book in English class, but the real coolness of "The Outsiders" is in its ability to match each character to an actor perfectly. C. Thomas Howell and Ralph Macchio in particular dive into their pivotol roles with great aplomb, turning what could have been a good but semi-forgettable '80s film into an immortal piece of cinema.
