Review of The Outlaw Josey Wales (1976) by David M — 24 Feb 2008
No doubt about it, Eastwood knows how to make a Western. He captures the cinematic nostalgia of the landscape and themes of the classic Western without suger coating the less photogenic sides of an earlier, more violent, time and place.
Take a look at how the Indians toward the end are portrayed--not the homocidal psychopaths of old John Wayne films, but still not the anti-violence uber-mystics often portrayed in more recent movies. Consider it a forerunner to his all-time classic, Unforgiven.
