This can be seen as a "dry run" for Eastwood's later work in UNFORGIVEN as Eastwood's character progresses from a revenge-obsessed loner to a "family man" who ultimately struggles to find peace in his new life.
Chief Dan George is great as Eastwood's partner/concience.
