Review of The Outlaw Josey Wales (1976) by Peter A — 17 Dec 2013
This movie was great! I just really liked everything about it. Clint Eastwood was his typical badass self, and while that's always fun to watch when you pop in an Eastwood movie, it's the supporting cast here that really gives the film its heart. Josey Wales picks up some misfits on his journey west, including the Native American Lone Watie, played by Chief Dan George. He was a great counter to Wales and was fun to watch. He had that awesome line, "Get ready, lady. Hell is comin' to breakfast." I love that. John Vernon was also awesome as the villain pursuing Wales across the country. He brought that same sinister snarl that made us hate him in Animal House. How could you not love Vernon's performance?
I've never been big into Westerns, but The Outlaw Josey Wales is definitely one to watch multiple times. It's well put together as one of the first movies Eastwood directed, and sets the stage to establish him as one of the best filmmakers of the modern years.
