Review of The Outfit (1973) by Jon A — 28 May 2008
Hard boiled 70s thriller from "Rolling Thunder" director John Flynn. Robert Duvall plays Earl Macklin, an ex-con seeking revenge on a bunch of midwestern mobsters for his brothers death. The movie is filled to the brim with terrific character actors like Joe Don Baker, Karen Black, Robert Ryan and Bill McKinney.
What makes this movie great is Flynn's low-key, non-bullshit directorial approach. The "Outfit" is a minimalistic and amoral film to say the least, but that is also it's strength.
