Review of The Other Woman (2014) by Daniel F — 14 Apr 2015
I can't believe how much I enjoyed this. If I had pleasures for which I felt guilty, this would be one of them. Knew nothing about this going in, other than the cast. As a rule, I can't stand Cameron Diaz but I enjoyed her in this.
I scoffed when I saw what's-her-tits-Swimsuit-Issue cast in a movie but she was actually cute, likeable, and did okay with her small role. Another rule: I LOVE Leslie Mann. She was great and her performance made me laugh hard and out loud several times.
The story wasn't totally formulaic or predictable and, though I had zero expectation of realism, it really reminded me (in the best way) of the many fun semi-dramatic comedies of the 80's in the way it just rode the line of total unbelievability while maintaining real emotions that kept it from falling apart - or even mattering.
Also, Nicki Minaj was entertaining and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau-Lannister should just give up on wearing clothes already.
