Review of The Other Guys (2010) by Freddie K — 22 Oct 2015
This movie is pretty sucky. It's supposed to be a comedy, but it's not funny. Rule #1 in writing a comedy: the guys who write it must first have a sense of humor. The comedy here was dumb gags and just stupid stuff.
Aside from Will Ferrell, nobody else in the cast is funny. On a positive note, Samuel L. Jackson and Dwayne Johnson, two incredibly unfunny actors, got killed off in the beginning of the movie. That was a good sign.
But unfortunately that didn't help. Michael Keaton and Mark Wahlberg were not funny at all. And honestly, I think Keaton is getting a little too old to play his standard, wisecracking funny guy. It's not working anymore.
And the screenplay just wasn't funny. But thank goodness for Eva Mendes and Will Ferrell. She looks incredible, and he was as funny as he could be given the terrible script. And the only bright spot in the film was the funny relationship between Ferrell and Mendes.
And Mendes did a surprisingly good job. In fact, they could probably have expanded on that relationship and made a much funnier and more interesting movie. But otherwise I'd suggest you don't even bother with this one.
