Review of The Other Guys (2010) by Yash B — 16 Jan 2016
In an age where buddy cop comedies are everywhere, this one manages to at least somewhat hold its own. There are amusing moments but only a handful come off as truly hilarious. Most of the humorous aspects come from Ferrell, playing his usual type of role.
But Ferrell and Wahlberg definitely make a solid duo. However the movie is very unsure of what it wants to be. Sometimes it feels like its parodying itself in one scene, and back to an actual plot-line in the next.
Of course this is done for laughs but its hard to tell whats actually meant to be taken seriously. If you're a fan of this very over done genre, you'll get what you expect, but if you want something incredibly fresh and original, well, maybe not.
Nonetheless its a fun movie and its simple plot is improved with some great chemistry and laughs.
