Review of The Other Boleyn Girl (2008) by Jackie O — 31 Jan 2012
I really wish I could have given this a higher rating because Natalie Portman's acting was superb... in fact in general the acting was top-notch. Visually opulent and stunning, and by the end at least, very true to Gregory's work.
I did not like the choice for type-font - it looked cheap, I also didn't like the fact that all the text given at the beginning and end was falling off the screen. The pacing was a little too swift towards the end, but this didn't surprise me because the focus wasn't really Anne, OR the divorce.
I was prepared for this to be historically inacurate because the book was in the first place (and boy did that iritate me!), but still little things, such as the fact that men shouldn't be in the lying-in-room! really bugged me.
Overall the film was a good adaptation of the novel, but sadly, a poor adaptation of history. A good old romp, ladies and gentlemen we welcome the return of the melodrama! (that's sarcasm btw.).
