Review of The Other Boleyn Girl (2008) by Tero H — 18 Oct 2012
Intriguing and well dramatized, yet I have seen better - meaning more eventful - movie adaptations of the historic events behind this movie. Indeed, slow paced and slightly dull, the movie needed in my humble view some more complexity to its story.
The acting, wardrobe and sets all above average, the film features grand English vistas and landscapes, castles and courts. That, and the interesting historic story aren't enough to make this a better-than-average movie, because despite it's interesting nature, the story is neither deep and detailed enough, nor fast enough. It concentrates too much on people's feelings, faces, much like a modern soap opera.
Scarlett Johansson's was, in my view, the most impressive performance in the movie. She has an ethereal feeling to herself, much like she had in the movie "Girl with a pearl earring.".
Despite the abovementioned slow pacedness and lack of historical detail, the movie is interesting, the women are beautiful and the story ends interestingly.
