Review of The Other Boleyn Girl (2008) by Chevelle H — 04 Oct 2009
I'm not sure. On the one hand, it plays like a protracted episode of the Bold and the Beautiful, where everyone sleeps with everyone else in order to get ahead, the women connive and plot, and the men are feeble and emasculated except for this One Evil Dude.
HOWEVER, Scarlett Johansson is breathtaking as the very desirable Mary, and Natalie Portman is adequately shrewish and shrill, although I still think Natalie Dormer plays Anne much better. As far as historical fiction goes, I guess this was lush enough.
But if you really want the whole Anne Boleyn drama and can afford the time... go watch The Tudors.
