Review of The Other Boleyn Girl (2008) by Kareem Y — 10 Oct 2009
My biggest problem with this was the historical inaccuracy. Compressing characters and events is one thing, but when this is meant to be a biopic and one of the main characters is changed dramatically to make another look bad, I'm not impressed.
Mary was not the little saint she is portrayed as being here. She was a little tramp that gave head to basically everyone in France. That being said, this movie was alright but by no means a standout Tudor-era drama.
Portman does good with what she's given, particularly with the pure desperation at the end, but her Anne is unfortunately written as a composite of every bad thing ever written about her, barring the witch finger.
Bana is totally miscast but tries, Johansson is absolutely awful, and the supporting Boleyns have no depth at all. A decent watch, but painfully amateur in the historical drama department.
