Review of The Other Boleyn Girl (2008) by Becca W — 30 Aug 2010
I guess the two things I liked about this movie were Eric Bana as Henry VIII and Scarlett Johansson as Mary Boleyn. Bana has the right kind of asshole machismo mixed with charm and entitlement that I imagine Henry VIII had.
Johansson played Mary really well as the sister who didn't want to be involved with Henry, but was anyway, and narrowly escaped with her head. Not a fan of Natalie Portman as Ann Boleyn-she was just too sinister.
It's hard for us in the 21st century to relate to someone like Ann Boleyn, but her only crime was being ambitious-we wouldn't chastise a woman for that now.
