Review of The Osterman Weekend (1983) by Walter C — 28 Aug 2008
Peckinpah final film is a confused, uneven affair- but it still has enough flashes of his stylized brilliance to grip your attention. Whilst the story may have suffered from its source material (an early Robert Ludlum effort), the action and violence is hard and brutal.
The film gloats on these moments with numerous camera angles and slow motion replays ala Peckinpah style, but its entertaining all the same. Would love to see his original cut of this, but as usual the directors relationship with the studio mean't more trouble and interference in the final edit.
