Review of The Orphanage (2007) by James K — 20 Apr 2011
Creepy, but not nearly as scary as some reviews have made it out to be. It's effective, I'll definitely give it that, but once it got into its second half it reminded me more of The Devil's Backbone, a wonderful film directed by The Orphanage's producer, Guillermo del Toro.
The quality of this has me curious and hopeful about his next project as a producer, "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark", another ghost tale that I'm hoping delivers double the scares and doesn't transition into a sad story like this did.
