Review of The Orphanage (2007) by Cody B — 24 Aug 2011
FINALLY! A movie that doesn't rely on cheap jumps and gore to get your heart racing! I don't know what it is, but the Spanish filmmakers just seem to understand horrors/thrillers better. This one was a treat because it didn't just build the tension to make you jump.
Juan Antonio Bayona understands mood and drawing tension out to create a creepy atmosphere. The actors were superb, and it didn't end like I thought it was going to. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a good "creepy" movie, especially if you're bored with what Hollywood is churning out for horror movies these days.
