Review of The Orphanage (2007) by Jeremy G — 11 Mar 2014
When was the last time a horror film actually surprised you with that tingle, that frisson of fear? I don't mean a BOO! Gotcha, nor the stomach turning revulsion of gore, nor yet the dread and tension of a thriller.
..for the orphanage has all of those, the former two in carefully measured doses. But it also gave me shivers; and it's been a LONG time since that happened. That's what I want from a scary movie - and it should be mentioned this is not only a scary genre piece.
As G del T says in one of the DVD supplements, this is the best kind of genre film, one that moves you. And it does, indeed. But best of all...it put the fear in me. And that's the highest praise a scary movie can earn.
