Review of The Orphanage (2007) by Phillip D — 22 Aug 2015
Del Toro continues his excellent streak of top notch horror-thrillers with The Orphanage, a taut and tense thrill ride filled with masterfully crafted scares that come in the form of well constructed and properly utilized supernatural baddies placed in the ideal setting for a great horror film.
The result doesn't have nearly as much philosophical heft as Pan's Labyrinth, but the production value is the same, with the relatively unknown cast delivering one of the best horror films of the 21st century and a clinic for any future directors looking to delve into the genre.
