Review of The Orphanage (2007) by Dutch V — 26 Oct 2010
I'm not a huge fan of ghost stories in general. I think if done well they are really cool, but in most cases they aren't which has led me to shy away from the genre. However, when I was told that this was actually well made I had to check it out. Again it could be the little kids or the old lady but there were some really creepy parts to this movie. That doesn't sound like much I know, but most movies now that would like to call themselves horror or suspense have neither horror nor suspense. So for something to creep me out is a pretty big compliment from me.
Next this movie is done in a very solid way. The plot is interesting, the characters are interesting, the ghosts are interesting, the camera angles are interesting. It is nice to see another movie that is actually using good horror techniques to make a movie solid. You don't need a violent theme or even gore to make something terrifying if it is done correctly. This is one that should be definitely checked out.
