Review of The Oranges (2011) by Richard D — 25 Jun 2013

Not knowing about this movie until I saw it on sale at a Best Buy, The Oranges has a nice cast that drew my attention. At the beginning, it seemed like it was going to be just another boring suburbanite movie, but then the kiss between Nina and Mr. Walling occurs and things get interesting. It looked like this movie was going to have a nice story behind it until they get caught about 10 minutes later! This movie is about how the families react, rebuild and adjust to the life shattering event. Some of it is emotional. Some of it is funny. However, it's the lack of a true direction that keeps this film from taking off. It could be a heart-felt drama about love and loss, but it doesn't know what it wants to be. The secondary characters are there to be story additives because without them there is no "reaction" to the affair. However, they try to make some of them comedic relief and it really isn't necessary because the movie isn't that dramatic. At the end of the day, The Oranges was better than I expected for a movie I never heard of that didn't have a nation wide release, but that doesn't make it a masterpiece or something you want to own. Rent it, it's not that long. C0-starring Adam Brody and Sam Rosen.

6/10 Stars - If it was more about the sneaking around, it would have been more interesting to the viewer, but having 2 curveballs in the story that fast and that early was damaging rather than helpful.
