Review of The Opposite of Sex (1998) by Scott W — 04 Feb 2010
I again point to a disparity between the general populous (58% approval) and the critics. (83%) This is a well acted, well scripted tangle of the lives of several Jerry Springer hopefuls. The snark is running at full throttle.
However, there's one giant problem... all of the characters are horrifically unlikable. It's too hard to root for or empathize with anyone here. Ricci's character warns you in the first moments of the film that she's not lovable, and she's not going to change.
Apparently I thought I was smarter than the movie - I should have listened. As a final note - Lyle Lovett should stick to singing and sleeping with Julia Roberts. He's out of his league here.
