Review of The Open House (2018) by Nick S — 20 Jan 2018
This was a pretty bad attempt, which is sad because it showed some promise in the beginning. The concept was good, the acting was not bad, the setting was good. In the end, there was no real substantial storyline.
It's ok to have mystery but this wasn't even that. There was no "meat to the bone", so to speak. The plot was slow to rise, there was almost no heavy suspense (mostly jump scares... if you can call it that since I stayed slouched in my chair), some of the actings could have been better, the ending (very unsatisfying).
In general, the movie was too vague, which is sometimes ok but this failed to make any connection with the protagonist and especially the antagonist. You leave asking... why? Not in the inquisitive and thoughtful way.
It was more so in a "what was the point in even watching this?" way.
