I think people really missed the point of this movie. The kid literally has a speech about the weirdness of open houses, how you don't know who is walking into your home. The ending ties in with that perfectly.
Why does everyone need things spooned to them? Life doesn't come wrapped with a neat little bow, why should movies be any different? Yes it could have used a little more action, but I like it went for a slow burn more than constant jump scares.
Lighten up people.
