Review of The Onion Movie (2008) by Elton E — 13 Aug 2008
Wretched from the muck that is today's movie comedies, The Onion was a breath of fresh air. Thick with satire it was a refreshing change from the frat boy shit movies they've cranked out lately.
Shit flicks like, "Knocked Up", shitty Will Farrell movies and crap ass Dane Cook vehicles. So, if you're into comedic tard fests whose jokes are built on the audience's knowledge of beer humor and weedolgy, this isn't your movie.
In fact, some portion of this movie is devoted to mocking fans of that...whatever it's called. "The Onion Movie" is a higher end comedy. Not to say that it's extremely cerebral in it's content.
Though I think it's significantly higher than most Adam Sandler schlock. The movie has a very loose story line woven through funny skits involving everything from "wiggers" to alternate uses for landmines.
There are attempts to cull the "fratboy" comedy masses into the movie. Most notably the mocking of manufactured "innocent" pop stars who use sexual innuendo to sell records...and of course "Cockpuncher".
If you need a refreshing break from the latest Steve Carrell attempt at funny, then, this is the ultimate movie for you. It's full of everything a comedy should be.
