Review of The One That Got Away (1957) by Matthew W — 04 Jun 2008
This is a little gem of a film that I caught on TCM the other day. It's based on the true story of Luftwaffe pilot Franz Von Werra, the only German POW to escape from British captivity during World War II.
Hardy Kruger plays the young fighter ace with lashings of charm and charisma, so much so that you really find yourself rooting for him after a while, although he is technically the enemy! Even if you don't like war movies you should still enjoy this one, as there's plenty of humour and some genuinely suspenseful moments.
Catch it if you can, you won't be disappointed.
