Review of The One (2001) by Jim S — 06 Sep 2008
Maybe I rated this too harshly at first. It's true that Jason Statham's un-bald head is it's greatest flaw (I.E, his entire pressence was unneccesary and used in all the wrong ways), and it's ever-so boring, slightly unoriginal story (Highlander, anyone?) that's only benefit was we got to see one of our great martial artists beat the ever-living hell out of himself, but it's that exact reason why it's entertaining.
It's action is leveled nicely, atuned to the modern rock of 2001 that we all liked (and we still don't know why). Acting is what you'd expect from a movie that considers a man picking up two motorcycles in each hand and beating three other men with them worth five minutes of screen time.
All-in-all, it's nice (if choreographed to all hell) in the action sense and special effects (you do have to admit the little universal traveling discombobulation scenes are fun to watch) are appealing for their time, but it's not for everyone and definitely not a good movie in any sense of the word.
