Review of The Omen (2006) by Eytan D — 07 Feb 2015
"The Omen" is certainly not the worst horror remake ever made. "Psycho" stills holds that title. The movie is stylish and gory, and it has an eerily funny advantage to having been released on June 6th, 2006.
But the biggest issue with this one is that it doesn't do anything new. It practically follows every plot line and bit of dialogue in the original by heart. Any changes are minor and insignificant.
Though Liev Schrieber and Julia Stiles are good performers, they don't hold a candle to Gregory Peck or Lee Remick. Perhaps the coolest, most ironic trait "The Omen" has going for it is Mia Farrow, mother of "Rosemary's Baby", playing Mrs.
Baylock, the nanny from hell. She is good and makes the character her own, but the character was much more terrifying in that we knew she was trouble from the beginning. Overall, not awful, but not okay either.
Just mediocre.
