Review of The Omen (1976) by Zack B — 31 Aug 2010
Jerry Goldsmith's Satanic a la Gregorian musical score is enough of a reason to watch this, pre-apocalyptic horror classic, but the performances are particularly noteworthy. Gregory Peck and Lee Remick create unnerving normalcy as the bewildered parents; Harvey Stephens is arrestingly, innocently threatening as the young antichrist, Damien.
Billie Whitelaw is diabolically sinister as Ms. Baylock, and David Warner turns in an excellent performance as the photographer Jennings. Richard Donner, a consummate underappreciated filmmaker (Superman, The Goonies, Lethal Weapon), displays his visual excellence.
