Review of The Omen (1976) by Chris E — 14 Nov 2010
Superb horror. It is carefully paced and a fine balance is maintained between gruesome death set pieces (lesser film makers may well have overblown it) and an engrossing story. The acting is top notch and much like Rosemary's Baby which came before it The Omen could stand alongside many drama films, such is the quality of the scripting and acting.
It's all important because the story relies on the audience empathising with these characters. As a low budget horror film with sketchy actors this would have fallen flat. The Omen is a masterpiece of the horror genre.
