Review of The Omen (1976) by Stephen C — 08 Nov 2010
Mak Gaitiss has pointed out that this film is a major work and deserves to be mentioned alongside the Exorcist .
It falls to me to point out that he does have a point Richard Donners film has plenty of standout moments and how it lingersin your mind some 35 years after the fact.
The thing that helps the film no end is the cast ,Peck and Remick are great as the parents of Damien and Billie Whitelaw as a sinister nanny Patrick Troughton as a presut who gets skewered and of course David Warner who gets to have one of the most memorable deaths in movie history .
The dialogue is a bit silly in places but Donner keeps the tension high and produces a film which conatains little gore but packs a wallop something the makers of the second movie forgot as they added loads of daeths but not much point.
Of course the other star of the film is THAT Jerry Golsdsmith score which has to go down in history as one of the best films score s for a film its a the final icing on a truly terryfying cake.
