Review of The Omen (1976) by Rob L — 02 Jun 2012
This was a much talked about movie of my youth although I would never have been allowed to watch it and, consequently, I had never gotten round to seeing it until now.
And what do you know? It's actually pretty bloody good. I had heard about the major set piece moment sponsored by Everest Double Glazing but it's so well mounted (the scene, not the window) that it doesn't disappoint and David Warner scarcely deserves his fate given his impressive performance.
The scene that brings an abrupt end to a kiddies' party is also shattering in a literal sense and the way the action skips countries as well as Guildford Cathedral lends it an interest that rural Arkansas would not have matched. Of course it's cheesy but this is how a horror film should be.
An earlier abrup.
