Review of The Omega Man (1971) by Jarrod L — 01 May 2008
This is a bad movie. I tried to like it but there's not much redeeming here. Comparing it to "I am Legend" there are a few similarities, a few differences which make this movie better but a lot that make it worse.
Everyone seems to have turned into some sort of a pale Luddite Cult with bad acne. They don't even seem really crazy they just burn stuff every night. I thought the I am Legend bad guys could have been improved but these guys are awful.
I can't actually remember what I liked better in this movie. This movie also suffers from product placement but it's a little better. Charlton Heston crashes his car and picks up a dusty 1970 Mustang convertible from a used car dealer.
When he drives it out it's pretty clean and nice looking. I'd like this more if it was good cheesy but it's not. I guess a positive note is that this movie is a lot more RAW while I am Legend felt very clean.
There were a lot of bodies and corpses in Omega Man but I can't remember seeing one in I am Legend.
