Review of The Omega Man (1971) by Dan H — 07 Jun 2009
The first fifteen minutes started out with real promise. This is suppossed to be an adaptation of Richard Matheson's I Am Legend. I wish Hollywood would just stick to the short story as written and not try to add their personal touches.
Instead of Vampires we get infected creepy cult people who talk and are sensitive to light. Apparently Neville isnt the ONLY person to survive the plague which is a huge part of the original story's feeling of isolation.
Above all this movie falls flat for the soundtrack. Not even Chuck Heston himself pick this movie up. The music reminds me of bad 70's music. Its kinda disco and vintage porn music. It rips you away from being immersed in the film.
I didnt even finish watching it. The music was so bad that it didnt matter how good the ending could have been, it wouldnt redeem it. Although I will say I was impressed with the set design. I dunno how they managed to make it look so post-apocalyptic in the 70's but that was about the only redeeming quality.
