Review of The Omega Man (1971) by Josh H — 22 Mar 2012
So I watched the Will Smith movie "I Am Legend" without any knowledge whatsoever of the book or the 2 movies that were based on the book. I really enjoyed the Will Smith version, but those who adore the book have told me how they hate it for deviating from the book.
I get that. However, the Vincent Price version ("Last Man On Earth") was just bad and this one was pretty bad too, but it was at least a minor improvement. The Will Smith version, while different, is far and away superior.
The 'vampires' or whatever the hell they're supposed to be didn't really make any sense to me and then when all these survivors start coming out of the woodwork (after 3 years, apparently) it just gets silly.
Also has this blaxplotation vibe to it too, which was pretty strange. Really, I just think that someone needs to do a version that's true to the book. The problem is, having the vampires/zombies be anything other than mindless killing machines (SEE: Will Smith version) would be stupid (in my opinion).
