The Old Man & The Gun is a small gem of a film. Small in nature but big in heart. Relatively short but delivers with a pleasure that speaks quietly and often. Based on the true story of lifetime bank robber Forrest Tucker, this is a film that rests its head on fine acting and an intelligent script.
It's a film that observes conversations and small details. It's reflective and contemplative, making for true cinematic pleasure. Director David Lowery is expert at this, aided by superb performances by legends Redford, his last role and Spacek.
Casey Affleck is also great as the detective hunting down Tucker in 1980s Texas. A film of sly humour and wry charisma.
