Review of The Old Man & the Gun (2018) by Mirza Mohd S — 21 Oct 2018
The Old Man & The Gun is charming comfort food albeit a little predictable.
In what could be Redford's last on-screen performance he lights up the screen in a way that made me blush. There are, however, no real stakes in the movie. Redford and his "Over the Hill Gang" are far too advanced to concern themselves with consequences. And as equally steady is Affleck who isn't so much hunting down a fugitive bank robber, but rather making a hobby out of a game of cat and mouse. The chemistry between Spacek and Redford, plus the warm, grainy glow of 70s aesthetic are the reasons you see this movie. Feel-good at its most endearing.
