Review of The Old Guard (2020) by Exiledbaggie — 10 Jul 2020
As someone who hasn't read the comic book I came at this cold as it were, it popped up on Netflix and Charlize Theron is always worth watching, not sure I've seen a particularly bad film she's been in. From the start we are introduced to the characters and realise there is something different about them. The action sequences are fast paced and contain the right amount of gore and the one liners zing at just the right places. Could have stood slightly more of the backstory of the characters but what we did get was well crafted. Found the 'Baddy' a touch one dimensional but if it is true to the comic book its difficult to mark it down for that. The twist at the end sets us up nicely for the sequel, I'm hoping we don't get the formulaic back for revenge schtick, but I cant see another way for it to go if I am honest.
IF you like your action fast paced and bloody with a hint of history, this is going to be for you. If not, try it anyway, always worth trying something new.
