Review of The Odessa File (1974) by Chandrani D — 28 Nov 2006
Adapting a novel for the screen is always difficult because you will always have to omit certain segments that make the story great. I found this to be true in this adaptation for Frederick Forsyth's story.
Had I not read the book, I think this would have been an intriguing 70's thriller but I found myself waiting for a few big sequences that never happened. Still, Voight was perfect in the lead role as was Schell as the Nazi.
I liked how the flashbacks were shot in black and white and also enjoyed the sequence in the print shop and the finale.
