You're either going to accept the magic realism and enjoy the movie for it's attempt to portray the perhaps over zealous attempts of an infertile couple to be the best parents they can possibly be to their young "miracle" or you'll find the story a load of codswallop and should not bother with it at all.
For my part, it was an absolute pleasure to watch CJ Adams in the title role.
