Review of The Odd Couple (1968) by Max W — 01 Jul 2007
So I just got done working on Yonkers and I thought I'd better check this one out. I fell asleep watching it with Andrea last night because I hadn't gotten much sleep at Josh's the night before, so I watched the rest of it today.
Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon are funny, but I think this works better as a stage play. In fact, I'm almost sure it does -- just seeing the female version Andrea was in in high school makes me think that because I remember laughing at that more.
That's sort of how old movies are somehow to me, but it might also just be Neil Simon, or maybe just the script. You can tell why it is such a great play, but the movie doesn't work quite as well.
