Review of The Odd Couple (1968) by Bryan W — 06 Aug 2010
Charming classic with fantastic little details everywhere. From the grime in the hotel sink to the lights of the city, everything comes alive. Gene Saks really pulls you in to this alternate world and time where men still sit around the poker table smoking cigars and phones had cords attached to them.
Jack Lehman and Walter Matthew are brilliant character actors of course, and their chemistry still shines even more than forty years later. Their differences are what makes this film work, the various quirks and subtleties.
