Nicholas Hytner's The Object of My Affection was a truly enlightening experience. I guess it also got to me because it mirrored my life almost exactly, and so it has a special place in my heart. Anyhow, the performances are wonderful, the story's original and interesting, and the characters are very well drawn. Aniston really is a great actress, as is Rudd (actor, not actress, for all you critical little fiends!), and this was the perfect film for them both to shine. Hawthorne, one of my least favorite actors, actually made a great appearance here, as a lonely man whose lover is an awful, mean young man. The film is wonderful, funny and touching, without tugging your heart out completely. ***1/2 (out of ****) B+.
