Review of The Oath (2018) by Hector V — 20 Oct 2018
"The Oath" gets political, and while everyone gets defamed, I can already see many critics arguing the film never takes a stance to say anything of substance. It's not really about politics, though.
Barinholtz isn't taking sides (though the film does obviously skew towards one end, especially once the questionably written resolution hits. Hey, it's Hollywood, baby), but rather making a point about our argumentative style of discourse in troubled times.
It's a great comedy film with smart commentary and atmospheric tension sold by a hysterical cast of talented actors, and one of those movies everyone should see before they start tearing out other people's throats when the holiday season hits.
