Review of The Nutty Professor (1996) by Michael H — 13 May 2013
The Nutty Professor is the remake of the... 1958 film? The Makeup deserved the award for Best Makeup. Eddie Murphey in fat suits is always hilarious. But Murphey becomes very Obnoxious in the middle of the movie as his second personality Buddy Love. Not to mention some of the family gets irratating throughout. But the movie is still funny if you have the patience to get through scenes like that. Sherman Klump weighs 400 lbs and is a smart scientist who wants the girl of his dreams. When he creates a formula that will make him thin, the sexual repression of his mind takes over and he must fight it beore it takes over him forever. Some of the dialoge is very smart. The film is funny at some parts but very obnoxious in lots of it. The comic stand up, Buddy Love, The Klumps, it is not fun to sit through those parts. But the parts with Sherman are the best. The makeup is great and is revolutionary for the time. Eddie Murphey is a very talented actor and I hope he doesn't retire just yet from all the crap he has been in for the last decade. We need another Nutty Professor and that could just save his career once more.
74/100 B-.
