Maybe it's because I went in with high hopes but low expectations, but I (and an auditorium full of adults and kids - about a 50-50 split) thoroughly enjoyed The Nut Job. Was it as good as the original short? No. But it came close - even with having to add a tone of new characters, or give depth to the few non-Surly ones that we saw in the short.,.

When there was drama - characters in danger - you could have heard a pin drop in the theater; when the jokes flew, there was laughter. Even a friend's four-year old grandnephew was totally caught up in the movie (and he has the attention span of a gnat, so that's saying something!).
