Review of The Nut Job (2014) by Leon B — 13 Dec 2014
Review:
I quite enjoyed this fun movie about a squirrel trying to find nuts for with his trusty rat companion. He ends up fighting against another group of animals who are also trying to find food before the winter and they manage to find a basement full of nuts which belongs to a group of criminals who bought the shop so they can rob the bank next door. As there is enough food for both parties, they strike a deal to share the food but the question is, can the dodgy squirrel be trusted? For a kiddie movie, there is enough material in the storyline which is enjoyable for adults as well. The jokes are quite amusing and the various characters were a great mixture. The animation isn't in the class of Pixar or Disney but its pretty average for this day and age. In all its a fun movie for the whole family, especially the kids. Enjoyable!
Round-Up:
Trust Liam Neeson to add his voice as the criminal minded raccoon! You can't really tell who the other voices are but Liam's voice really does stands out. Anyway, I wasn't expecting that much from this film because there wasn't much hype surrounding it, but I quite enjoyed it because it's non-stop from beginning to end. The storyline was well thought through and there are some little tweaks, like the whistle, the rat and the weird red bird, which added to this well put together movie. Its just a shame that a massive studio didn't make this film because it should have got the big distribution and detailed animation that it deserved.
Budget: $42million.
Worldwide Gross: $113million.
I recommend this movie to people who are into their comedy/animation movies about a animals hunting for food before the winter comes. 6/10.
