Review of The Nun's Story (1959) by Tim C — 01 Feb 2012
This film was made in 1959 and it is an epic film in small proportions. Audrey Hepburn plays a woman who wants to become a nun, and becomes one, but goes through rigorous tests of her spiritual strength against the world, which takes her to a sanitarium, where she is attacked by a schizophrenic (Colleen DeWurst in her film debut), and then she is ordered to the Congo where she butts heads with the tempestuous, worldly doctor (played by Peter Finch).
It is an amazing character study done by Audrey Hepburn, and one of her personal favorites, and you can see why. In fact, upon doing this film, it inspired Hepburn to pursue humanitarian work, which led to her UNICEF ambassadorship.
The cast also includes Dean Jagger, Beatrice Straight, Dame Peggyy Ashcroft, and Dame Edith Evans.
